It offers a journey through twenty-five centuries of history of the Nîmes region, from Gallic origins to contemporary times, with particular emphasis on the Roman period. The permanent collections comprise approximately five thousand objects, including sculptures, mosaics, everyday items and architectural remains, complemented by sixty-five multimedia displays. Located opposite the Nîmes Arenas in a contemporary building designed by architect Elizabeth de Portzamparc, the museum combines scientific vocation and diverse cultural functions: restaurant, bookstore-shop, Mediterranean garden and panoramic terrace.
