The Argonne Museum, located in Varennes-en-Argonne in Meuse, is a museum in a rural area. The museum notably presents testimonies of the arrest of Louis XVI and his family on June 21, 1791, a determining moment for the city. Its collections include a set of glassware and ceramics attesting to the importance of local craft activity, including the production of faience from the Islettes manufactory, founded in 1735. The museum also documents the stages of World War I in Argonne, with particular attention to the fighting and the mine warfare of which the Vauquois butte was the setting.
