The Verdun Memorial is a museum and historical site dedicated to the Battle of Verdun (February-December 1916), which took place on the northern heights of the city. Located in Fleury-devant-Douaumont in Meuse, it offers a combined approach to the battlefield and a memorial museum comprising more than 2,000 objects. The site allows visitors to tour several forts—Fort Douaumont, the largest fortification of the fortress, and Fort Vaux—where visitors can experience the reality of French and German combatants through audiovisual displays and ambitious scenography. The institution functions as a multi-faceted place of remembrance, combining object collections, historical documentation, and direct access to battlefield remains. It also hosts events, lectures, and provides educational resources for schools and groups.
