The Planetarium of Gresswiller is a mechanical astronomical device installed in Gresswiller, in Alsace. Designed in 1997 by Jean-Michel Rohr, it offers a representation of the solar system inscribed in a circular band 9 meters in diameter, where the movements of the planets around the Sun are reproduced with precision by means of a system of rods and gears. The installation integrates a clock with two dials displaying solar and legal time, the durations of day and night, as well as lunar phases, complemented by a unique water clock that operates the planetarium's mechanism. The positions of the celestial bodies correspond to observations of the Alsatian sky, and a second band represents the constellations traversed by the Sun. This ensemble combines educational dimension and ingenious mechanics, intended for the observation and learning of astronomical phenomena.
