Musée militaire
Marckolsheim · Bas-Rhin · Grand Est

The Maginot Line Rhine Memorial Museum, located in Marckolsheim in Alsace, is installed in a standard casemate of the Maginot Line, a fortification built from 1930 onwards. The museum recreates the daily life of soldiers in this fortification equipped with two firing chambers, designed to defend a strategic passage of the Rhine. Visitors can discover the various functional spaces: firing chambers, dormitory, command post, as well as a Sherman Hartmannswillerkopf tank. The site commemorates the intense fighting from June 15 to 17, 1940, a period during which the town of Marckolsheim was destroyed by more than 80%. Visits are offered freely or guided by appointment for groups.
