Musée des lapidaires à Lamoura

Lamoura · Jura · Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

The Lamoura Lapidary Museum, located in the heart of the Haut-Jura Regional Natural Park, is dedicated to the history and practice of the lapidary craft in the region. It traces the evolution of this activity, initially complementary to agriculture around the 18th century, before the establishment of specialized workshops. The museum displays the traditional craftsmanship of Upper Jura artisans in the cutting of precious stones — rubies, sapphires, emeralds and other gemstones — a trade that still survives today through a handful of craftsmen working for major jewelry houses. The museum's collections offer a comprehensive approach to the artisanal process, from equipment to cutting techniques, enhanced by a documentary film. The museum offers both self-guided and guided visits, as well as workshops for children.
