Musée de la Pipe et du Diamant de Saint-Claude

Saint-Claude · Jura · Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

Private museum located in Saint-Claude, in Haute-Savoie, created by the Confrérie des Maîtres-Pipiers and the Association of Diamond Cutters of the Haut-Jura. It traces the history of two traditional crafts that made the town famous: pipe manufacturing and diamond cutting. The section dedicated to pipes presents old tools, workshop machines and a rich collection of local and international productions, as well as the chapter hall where the Confrérie's inductions take place. The diamonds space displays a reconstructed workshop with automatons, rough and cut stones, creations by Meilleurs Ouvriers de France, as well as a documentary on cutting techniques and the history of this craft. This dual industrial heritage testifies to Saint-Claude's prominence as a worldwide pipe-making center in the 19th century and a renowned lapidary hub.
