Musée d'histoire
Landévennec · Finistère · Bretagne
A site museum installed on the ruins of the former Abbey of Landévennec, on the Crozon peninsula in Finistère. The museum combines an exceptional archaeological site, excavated from 1978 to 2002, with archaeological collections from monastic remains covering approximately 1300 years of Breton history. The foundations of the 9th-century monastery, the church, the residential buildings of the monks, and the tomb of Saint Guénolé constitute the only visible remains in Europe of a complete monastery from this period. The site offers a permanent exhibition, temporary exhibitions renewed every two years based on archaeological research, a medieval garden, guided tours, and activities. Located in a rural setting, the departmental museum is part of an initiative to promote Breton medieval heritage.
