The Brest Museum of Fine Arts houses an important collection of paintings, sculptures and graphic arts. Founded in 1877, the museum was destroyed in 1941 and rebuilt, with its current building dating from 1968. It contains approximately 15,000 works whose display is organized thematically, with an orientation deliberately associated with the maritime vocation of the city. The museum closed its doors to the public in April 2025 to undertake an ambitious project on its collections in preparation for the delivery in 2029 of a new conservation hub. Alongside this closure, the institution continues its activities through temporary exhibitions, notably hosted at the François Mitterrand media library, as well as diverse educational and cultural programs.
