The Museum of Fine Arts in Rennes, located on Quai Zola, offers an overview of the history of art from Antiquity to the present day. Established in 1794 from works seized from religious and civil buildings, it was enriched mainly by the encyclopedic cabinet of curiosities of Christophe-Paul de Robien, one of the most important collections in Europe, bringing together paintings, sculptures, antiquities and drawings by old masters. During the 19th century and beyond, the museum was enriched by acquisitions from the State and systematic purchases, constituting a representative collection of the various schools of European painting and modern and contemporary artistic movements. Since 2025, the museum has expanded to a second site in Maurepas. It regularly hosts temporary exhibitions, lectures and various cultural events.
