The House of Enlightenment Denis Diderot is the only museum dedicated to the philosopher and encyclopedist Denis Diderot, a native of Langres. Housed in a mansion dating from the 16th and 18th centuries, it presents the life and work of Diderot in the context of the Age of Enlightenment, exploring his many facets: philosopher, encyclopedist, novelist, man of theater, art critic and scholar. The collections include original editions of the Encyclopedia, texts by Diderot and his contemporaries, as well as paintings and sculptures by 18th-century masters. The exhibition also addresses Langres cutlery, the work of printers, the European network of scholars and the importance of correspondence, illustrated by scientific instruments and old maps.
