The Nicolas Poussin Museum is housed in an 18th-century bourgeois residence in the heart of the town of Les Andelys, in Eure. It traces local history from the prehistoric period to industrial activities of the 20th century, through varied collections covering fine arts, decorative arts, archaeology, industrial history, and regional ethnology. Its themes include religious heritage, French painting from the 16th and 17th centuries, the collections of the Duke of Penthièvre, glass objects from the Holophane company, paintings from the Rouen School, and archaeological remains. The museum notably preserves a canvas by Nicolas Poussin, "Coriolanus Entreated by his Family," recalling the Andelyse origins of the great 17th-century painter after whom it is named. As a museum of France, it offers temporary exhibitions and welcomes the public free of charge on the first Sundays of the month and during national heritage events.
