The Mechanical Saboterie is a museum dedicated to the history of wooden shoe manufacturing and Vosges industrial heritage, located in Trémonzey in the Vosges. The site occupies a former saboterie founded in 1880 by François-Xavier Bobant, inventor of innovative machines presented at the Universal Exposition in Paris in 1878. The museum preserves period machines, tools, and colorful souvenir wooden shoes produced by seven generations of the Bobant family, notably those intended for the coal mining colonies of the Lorraine Basin. The historic workshops have been restored and offer an immersive visit to the production setting, with its rare machines, characteristic smells, and 19th-century workshop atmosphere. The site, surrounded by a stream, a pond, and a forest, also welcomes a four-star lodging in the buildings. Museum visits are conducted only by reservation through the tourist office.
