Bunker 502
Arcachon · Gironde · Nouvelle-Aquitaine
Bunker 502 is an underground fortification remnant dating from World War II, located in Arcachon in Gironde. Specialized in telecommunications, this military telephone exchange was built in approximately eight weeks and could accommodate two combat troops, or about twenty men, protecting them from bombing. The site was explored in 2015 and then excavated in 2016, before being developed for visits. Integrated into the MA.AT cultural hub, the bunker testifies to the major historical issues of German occupation and World War II in the region. Free or guided visits allow visitors to discover this restored and scenographically presented monument, complemented by a dedicated booklet covering the historical context and functionality of the site.
