La Maison de l'Huitre

The Oyster House is a museum located in Gujan-Mestras, in Gironde, dedicated to oyster farming and the history of oysters in the Arcachon Basin. The museum offers a visit including a film, exhibition rooms and an outdoor trail allowing visitors to discover the work of oyster farmers and traditional breeding techniques. It is located in the regional oyster farming capital, characterized by seven ports, oyster farms and traditional cabins. The site also offers complementary activities: a visit to Larros port, oyster tastings, a children's area, an escape game and a shop. The museum is open from September to June, Monday to Saturday, and every day in July-August.
