Musée
Avranches · Manche · Normandie

The Avranchin municipal museum, located in Avranches in Manche, occupies a historic building in the old town that served as a residence for the bishops of Avranches in the 12th century before becoming the Officiality around 1269, then a prison during the French Revolution. Opened to the public in 1967, it holds archaeological collections, paintings by local artists, popular arts and traditions, as well as materials relating to World War II. The museum also has an important iconographic collection related to Mont-Saint-Michel and its region, partially digitized and accessible to researchers. Since 2024, the museum's buildings are entirely dedicated to conservation, restoration, and collection management, and no longer welcome visitors.
