The Albert Ciurana Pharmacy Museum, established in Montpellier since 1972, is housed in the facilities of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Montpellier. Founded by Albert Ciurana, a pharmacist, this museum traces the history of pharmacy in its industrial, biological, hospital, and retail forms, a discipline taught in Montpellier since the 13th century. The collections, regularly enriched by donations and managed by volunteer pharmacists with diplomas, include recreations of 19th and 20th century pharmacies, art objects, paintings, herbals, botanical and chemical raw materials, as well as scientific instruments. The museum also documents the work of Montpellier scholars who marked the history of science, including Antoine-Jérôme Balard and Jules-Émile Planchon. It is the only pharmacy museum of significance located on a university campus.
