The Cachot is a private museum dedicated to the local history of Lourdes, located at 15 rue des Petits Fossés. It occupies a former prison, converted into a residence in the 19th century, where the Soubirous family lived during the winter of 1857 and 1858. This building, called the "Cachot" in reference to its use as a jail until 1824, constitutes a space of approximately 16 m² bearing witness to the modest living conditions of the era. The museum is particularly linked to the events of February 11, 1858, when Bernadette Soubirous left this place to go to the Grotto of Massabielle. Open for free visits, the museum offers free admission with optional donations.
