Fort Wagner, also called Feste Wagner, is a military fort built between 1904 and 1910 on a hill overlooking southern Metz. Built during the annexation of Moselle to the German Empire (1871-1918), it constitutes the only fortified structure or complex of Metz's second defensive ring open to the public, offering testimony to German military architecture of that era. The site, located in Verny in Moselle, brings together historical collections and an arboretum: an educational trail guides visitors through the vegetation that has reclaimed the fort, complemented by informational panels. The fort represents a symbol of peace and Franco-German reconciliation and offers guided tours adapted for families and school groups, with interactive activities.
