The Iron Museum, located in Montgailhard in Ariège, is a heritage site dedicated to preserving the trades and traditions of Pyrenean culture from the early twentieth century. The museum functions as a reconstructed village offering live demonstrations and interactive workshops on blacksmithing, edge tool making, basket weaving, clog manufacturing and other traditional trades. It houses a collection of more than 5,000 tools and utensils related to more than 100 traditional crafts, as well as a hammer forge classified as a Historic Monument dating from the mid-fifteenth century. The animated workshops, which are accessible and covered, allow visitors of all generations to discover artisanal techniques and regional history. The site combines the preservation of material heritage with the transmission of Pyrenean know-how.
