Musée départemental de l'Ariège

Foix · Ariège · Occitanie

The departmental museum of Ariège is a site museum located in Foix Castle, in Occitania. It offers a playful and immersive approach to medieval history, particularly that of the counts of Foix and their court. The collections are presented in recreated period interiors of the castle, with furniture, weapons and décor, complemented by animated workshops covering medieval daily life: stone carving, blacksmithing, and archery with ancient weapons. The establishment also hosts temporary exhibitions and offers interactive museography combining heritage and medievalism, enhanced by an immersive olfactory atmosphere. The site integrates full-scale reconstructed war machines visible outdoors into its visit.
