The Barois Museum is located in the remains of the former castle of the Dukes of Bar and Lorraine, in the heart of the Upper Town of Bar-le-Duc. Created in 1841 with an encyclopedic spirit, the museum houses diverse collections covering painting and sculpture from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, specimens of natural history, decorative arts, weapons and armor, as well as archaeological objects from the ancient site of Nasium. Local artistic productions are highlighted, particularly the works of Renaissance sculptor Ligier Richier and the earthenware from Islettes. The museum also devotes space to ethnography, with remarkable pieces such as a 12th-century Taíno zemi.
