The Maquis of Saffré is a memorial site dedicated to the French Resistance during World War II. Located in the Saffré forest in Loire-Atlantique near Nantes, it commemorates the events that occurred from June 16 to 28, 1944, three weeks after the Normandy landings. The site traces the history of three hundred resistance fighters who were gathered there, their commitment against German occupation, and the fighting that resulted in the death and capture of many resistors. The maquis was placed under the responsibility of representatives of General de Gaulle, who inaugurated the monument in 1950. Through its testimonies and documents, the site offers visitors the opportunity to follow the journey of the resistance fighters, the deported, and local actors of the Resistance in the Nantes region.
