Societies & CivilizationsÉcomusée d'Ouessant
Ouessant · Finistère · Bretagne
The Ouessant Ecomuseum is a house of the Armorique Regional Natural Park located on the island of Ouessant, in Finistère. It is dedicated to island life, particularly traditional housing and the social history of the island, where women alone carried out agricultural work while men pursued maritime careers. The collections illustrate domestic life and insularity through furniture, clothing, costumes and everyday objects, particularly the organization of the traditional house characterized by its bright colors and structure inspired by the maritime world. The establishment offers workshops, meetings, guided tours and exhibitions throughout the year, complemented by a partnership with the artistic residency of the Créac'h semaphore. The Ecomuseum examines the contemporary evolution of island identity, showing how traditions transform and perpetuate themselves in the face of changes in modern life.
