Bayeux, the Battle of Normandy

Just outside town, the Battle of Normandy Museum traces the seventy-six days of fighting that followed the 6 June 1944 landings, through uniforms and armoured vehicles — a short walk from France's largest British military cemetery.

Day 3

Caen, the Memorial for peace

Built over General Richter's former command post, the Caen Memorial has traced the Second World War and the Battle of Caen since 1988, in a building whose cracked façade symbolises the rupture of peace in 1939.
