This cultural site comprises a group of four medieval Serbian Orthodox monasteries located in the Peć region of Kosovo. The monasteries—Peć Patriarchate, Dečani, Graçanica, and Patriarchate of Peć—represent outstanding examples of Byzantine and Balkan medieval architecture and artistic traditions. They were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2004 and 2006 for their exceptional architectural design, remarkable frescoes, and their significance in the development of Serbian Orthodox religious culture during the medieval period. The monasteries are situated in a mountainous landscape characteristic of the Kosovo region and feature distinctive stone construction with intricate interior decorative programs. These religious monuments document important phases of medieval Balkan history and contain important artistic evidence of the period. The sites remain significant to Orthodox Christian heritage and continue to represent important examples of medieval monastic architecture in southeastern Europe.
