Located in southwestern Turkey in the region of Caria, this ancient city ranks among the most significant archaeological sites of the Greco-Roman world. The site contains exceptionally well-preserved remains spanning from the Neolithic period through the Byzantine era, with particular prominence given to its Classical and Roman monuments. Aphrodisias was dedicated to the goddess Aphrodite and served as an important religious, cultural, and commercial center, attracting pilgrims and merchants throughout antiquity. The site is characterized by its impressive marble structures, including a temple, stadium, theater, and acropolis, many of which remain standing due to protective archaeological conditions. The inscription recognizes the outstanding universal value of the site, which provides crucial evidence of cultural and artistic development in the Eastern Mediterranean over more than eight centuries. The exceptional preservation of decorative elements and sculptural works makes Aphrodisias a particularly valuable resource for understanding ancient aesthetic and architectural practices.
