Located in central Greece on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, this archaeological site represents one of the most important sanctuaries of ancient Greece. The sanctuary was dedicated to Apollo and served as a major religious and cultural center from the 8th century BCE onwards, where the famous Oracle of Delphi provided prophecies that influenced decisions of Greek city-states and beyond. The site contains the remains of temples, treasuries, a theater, and a stadium, along with numerous votive offerings and sculptures that testify to its religious significance. The layout of the sanctuary, built on steep terrain, reflects how structures were adapted to the natural landscape over successive periods of occupation and reconstruction. The archaeological remains provide valuable evidence of ancient Greek religious practices, architecture, and the interactions between different Mediterranean civilizations. The combination of its historical importance as a religious center and the quality of its architectural and artistic remains justifies its recognition as a cultural heritage site.
