The Society for the History of Lorraine and the Lorraine Museum, founded in 1848, is a Nancy-based institution dedicated to the study and preservation of Lorraine's heritage. It pursues four objectives: to study and disseminate regional history, to ensure the conservation of Lorraine's monuments, to maintain the Lorraine Museum, and to publish historical works. The institution manages documentary collections (Wiener Fund, Simonin Fund) and a library, while regularly organizing lectures and guided tours. Since 1951, it has published Le Pays Lorrain, a regional quarterly journal devoted to the history, archaeology, and heritage of the region. Located in Nancy, in Meurthe-et-Moselle, the museum occupies the Cordeliers Church and remains a reference center for knowledge of Lorraine's past.
