Musée des Traditions Bugistes

Saint-Rambert-en-Bugey · Ain · Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Bugiste Traditions Museum is a heritage museum located in Saint-Rambert-en-Bugey, in the Albarine valley in Ain. Managed by volunteers, it traces the life of Upper Bugey between 1850 and 1950, a period marked by industrialization and rural traditions. The exhibition spaces recreate moments of village life, from farms to bugiste houses, including the former Schappe textile factory, craftsmen's workshops and the forge. The museum also offers the opportunity to discover Italian families who came to work in charcoal production, as well as the life of schools and winemakers of that era. Open year-round on fixed hours and by request, it welcomes guided tours for groups and school classes, complemented by educational projects and a shop offering historical works and regional bugiste products.
