The National Resistance Museum is located in Varennes-Vauzelles, in Nièvre, in a former workers' town equipped with SNCF workshops that constituted a major strategic stake during the Second World War. The museum retraces the action of local railway workers and the surrounding maquis, documenting locomotive sabotages, intelligence networks and patriotic strikes led against the occupier, as well as daily life under occupation in the region. It preserves remains and collections relating to this period. The museum functions as a place of memory dedicated to transmitting the values of the Resistance and honoring those who fought for freedom. Admission is free and group visits are available by appointment.
