Musée d'art
La Rochelle · Charente-Maritime · Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Located in La Rochelle in Charente-Maritime, the Museum of the Residence of the Indies occupies an 18th-century townhouse that belonged to the shipowner-merchant Weiss, the local representative of the East India and China Company. The museum traces the city's Oriental history during its golden age, presenting collections of art and exotic objects from the East Indies, China, Japan and other regions frequented by La Rochelle navigators. The restored and period-appointed interiors offer an immersion in the architecture and décor of a merchant-shipowner's residence. Beyond its museum vocation, the building also offers guest rooms, a tea salon and regularly hosts cultural events such as concerts, lectures and workshops.
