Musée
La Rochelle · Charente-Maritime · Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Created in 1982, the Museum of the New World in La Rochelle is dedicated to the historical relationships between France, particularly La Rochelle, and the Americas since the 16th century. The city, a former major port for trade and emigration to the New World, shaped the history of exchanges with New France, the Antilles, and other American territories. The museum's collections include paintings, drawings, engravings, ancient maps, decorative art objects, and photographs evoking Brazil, Canada, Louisiana, and indigenous peoples. Housed in spaces of rococo and neoclassical architecture, the museum favors a dynamic scientific and cultural approach, integrating temporary exhibitions and contemporary creations while preserving the coherence of its original project.
