The Museum of Earthenware of Sarreguemines is housed in the former apartments of Paul de Geiger, director of the earthenware factory between 1871 and 1913. It presents collections of ceramics testifying to the stylistic diversity of the manufactory: earthenware, stoneware, and porcelain cover all fields of decoration and tableware arts in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The museum traces the history of the manufactory from its creation during the French Revolution until its closure in 2007, as well as the role of major directors and the daily life of workers. Its highlight is the Winter Garden, a remarkable architectural space whose construction responds to the fashion of nineteenth-century winter gardens. Located in Sarreguemines in Moselle, the museum is and aspires to be the technical and artistic memory of an industry that marked the fame of the city for nearly two centuries.
