The Museum of Ceramics and Ivory is housed in the former Art Deco municipal bathhouse in Commercy, in the Meuse department. It presents one of the most remarkable French collections of ivories from the 17th to the 19th centuries, notably assembled by Dr. Albert Guillaume Boyer, as well as a significant collection of earthenware and porcelain from the 18th and 19th centuries. The ivory collection, the second largest in France after that of Dieppe, comprises reproductions of works of art, representations of historical figures, religious objects, and utilitarian pieces that testify to the virtuosity of master ivory carvers. Lorraine earthenwares occupy an important place, particularly the productions of the Meuse manufacture of Islettes. The museum also preserves ancient weapons and a collection of painted canvases bequeathed in 1942 by a local collector.
