Musée
Dammartin-en-Serve · Yvelines · Île-de-France

The Museum of Ancient Sparterie is located in a former 19th-century factory, rehabilitated and inaugurated in 1994 in Dammartin-en-Serve, in Yvelines. It traces the history of the Lemaire company, founded in 1839, which developed a textile industry recognized worldwide by transforming plant fibers into ropes, baskets, and textiles. The museum's collections are organized around three areas: the industrial heritage of sparterie, local archaeological and geological heritage (fossils, prehistoric tools, Gallo-Roman remains), and the sociological heritage of the village in the 19th and 20th centuries. The site, abandoned in 1974, was transformed into a multipurpose facility that also houses a library and a performance hall. Visits are by appointment and during European Heritage Days, with free access on the latter occasion.
