The International Center for Glass Art (CIAV) in Meisenthal occupies the former cutting workshop of the historic Glassworks, founded in 1704 in the Northern Vosges. Installed since 1992 in this heritage building, it succeeded the Glass Museum created in 1978 after the factory's closure in 1969. The CIAV is dedicated to preserving the technical glass-making memory of the territory and highlighting traditional glass craftsmanship, of which Meisenthal was a major center of the Art Nouveau movement at the turn of the 20th century thanks to research conducted by Émile Gallé between 1867 and 1894. As a public institution, the center brings together around contemporary glass creation and artisanal techniques the heritage, cultural and tourist dimensions linked to glass crafts. It welcomes visitors at the heart of a site undergoing transformation, testimony to an industrial and working-class adventure.
