Blois Castle has housed the city's Fine Arts Museum in the Louis XII wing since 1869. The collections, formed through donations from individuals, artists, and successive acquisitions, comprise approximately 35,000 objects, of which more than 300 paintings, sculptures, and works of art are permanently on display. The museum tour is distinguished by a thematic organization of the rooms, arranged around major subjects of Western art history: religious iconography, the representation of châteaux, mythological and biblical history, minor genres, portraiture, and artistic activity in Blois. This thematic approach, departing from traditional chronological discourse, is accompanied by explanatory panels and contextual notes adapted for all audiences, including young visitors. The museum complements the visit to the royal apartments by offering a renewed perspective on art history through the juxtaposition of works from different periods.
