The Lumière Institute is a film library and museum dedicated to the history of cinema, located in Lyon in the Monplaisir-Lumière district. It occupies a historically significant location, since cinema was born in Lyon, and the Institute perpetuates this legacy by offering varied film programming, retrospectives, film concerts and lectures. The museum also houses a photography exhibition gallery and provides access to a specialized library. The site complements its offerings with a cinema bookstore, a café-restaurant and the publication of a monthly review, Positif, making it a comprehensive center of film culture.
