The Tobacco Museum, established in Bergerac in Dordogne, explores three millennia of history of this plant native to America. Its collections, unique in Europe, trace the saga of tobacco through its multiple uses and its impact on societies: sociological, economic, cultural, artistic and political dimensions. The museum is not a promotion of tobacco but rather a presentation of the objects and know-how that it has inspired across continents and centuries. Located in the Peyrarède House, known as the Henri IV château, a 17th-century townhouse situated in the heart of the historic center of Bergerac, the museum is housed in a building that testifies to the transition between the Renaissance and Classicism. It also offers temporary exhibitions and educational action programs.
