Musée archéologique de la Vieille Paroisse

Rochefort · Charente-Maritime · Nouvelle-Aquitaine

The Archaeological Museum of the Old Parish is located in a former Romanesque church in the city center of Rochefort, in Charente-Maritime. Managed by the Geographical Society of Rochefort, an association founded in 1806, it presents archaeological collections gathered over several decades and testifies to the history of the Charente coast, its landscapes and populations throughout the millennia. The museum, open since 1979, regularly offers thematic exhibitions addressing local and regional archaeology as well as significant historical events. It welcomes the public every Wednesday afternoon and also offers a three-dimensional virtual tour. The historic building served as a Labor Exchange during the twentieth century before its transformation into a museum space.
