Day 1

Strasbourg, the cathedral and its treasury

A pink sandstone spire visible for miles, an astronomical clock that draws crowds at noon, then, right across the square, the house where the facade's original sculptures are kept — away from the weather and the crowds, a close encounter with the faces that have watched over the city since the Middle Ages.

Day 4

Bartholdi, then an escape to Riquewihr

The birthplace of the sculptor behind the Statue of Liberty, before taking the wine road to Riquewihr, one of France's most beautiful villages, where a 13th-century fortified tower offers, at golden hour, a view over the rooftops and the Alsace plain that alone is worth the trip.
