These protected areas in Vietnam comprise extensive limestone karst formations with significant geological and ecological importance. Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park and Hin Nam No National Park are situated along the Vietnam-Laos border, extending across a region characterized by dramatic limestone mountains and underground cave systems. The sites contain diverse tropical forest ecosystems and represent important habitats for numerous endemic species. The limestone plateau landscape includes numerous caves, underground rivers, and distinctive karst topography that reflects millions of years of geological evolution. These natural features, combined with the parks' biodiversity and intact ecosystems, constitute the primary basis for their international recognition as protected natural heritage.
