This natural site comprises ancient and primeval beech forests distributed across the Carpathian Mountains and other European regions, with significant portions located in Ukraine. The forests represent outstanding examples of undisturbed temperate forest ecosystems, showcasing the natural regeneration and development of beech-dominated woodland in their native range. These woodlands are characterized by old-growth forest structures, including large trees, standing deadwood, and complex layered canopy systems that have developed with minimal human intervention. The site's value lies in its ability to demonstrate the natural dynamics of European beech forests and their ecological processes across different geographical and climatic conditions. The Carpathian component of this transnational property reflects the region's role as a refuge for primeval forest ecosystems in Central Europe. The forests provide important habitat for various wildlife species and contribute to scientific understanding of temperate forest ecology and natural succession.
