The historic centre of Český Krumlov is a medieval and Renaissance town located in southern Bohemia, in the Czech Republic, situated along a bend of the Vltava River. The site represents an exceptionally well-preserved example of a Central European town, with its urban layout, architecture and fortifications largely unchanged since the 16th century. The town is characterized by its narrow winding streets, numerous burgher houses featuring Gothic and Renaissance elements, and the dominant Český Krumlov Castle that overlooks the settlement. The historic centre documents the development of a significant regional trading and administrative centre through the medieval and early modern periods. Its architectural coherence and the integrity of its urban fabric reflect centuries of continuous habitation and cultural continuity, making it a notable testimony to Central European urban development and heritage preservation.
