This cultural site in Poland represents a distinctive example of Renaissance urban planning and architecture. The old town of Zamość was founded in the 16th century and designed according to humanist principles, featuring a geometrically planned layout centered on a spacious market square. Its architectural character reflects Italian Renaissance influences combined with local Central European building traditions, visible in the harmonious arrangement of burgher houses, public buildings, and fortifications. The town's design and preservation demonstrate the application of ideal city principles of the Renaissance period, with particular attention to symmetry and proportional relationships. Located in southeastern Poland, Zamość remains an important example of coordinated urban development from this historical period, with its original street patterns and architectural ensemble substantially intact.
