Located in the Vallo della Lucania region of southern Italy, this mixed heritage site encompasses a national park protecting a significant stretch of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano landscape along with two major archaeological complexes and a monumental monastery. The inscription recognizes the outstanding universal value of the ancient Greek cities of Paestum and Velia, which showcase well-preserved remains of classical temples and urban structures from the 6th to 3rd centuries BCE, alongside the Certosa di Padula, a Carthusian monastery founded in the 14th century and expanded during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The natural landscape features Mediterranean vegetation, agricultural terraces, and mountainous terrain that has remained relatively unchanged, providing important evidence of traditional land use patterns in southern Italy. The archaeological sites document the evolution of Greek colonial settlements in the region, while the monastery represents a remarkable example of religious architecture with its distinctive large cloister and elaborate decorative elements. Together, these components illustrate the cultural and natural heritage layers that characterize this part of Campania, from antiquity through the medieval and early modern periods.
