Located in the Kutch district of Gujarat in northwestern India, this archaeological site represents one of the major urban centers of the Harappan civilization, dating to the Bronze Age. The settlement demonstrates the sophisticated urban planning and architectural principles characteristic of the Indus Valley civilization, with evidence of a fortified citadel, residential areas, and advanced water management systems. The site is distinguished by its distinctive layout featuring a castle, middle town, and lower town separated by walls, along with an impressive network of reservoirs and channels that reveal the inhabitants' engineering expertise. Numerous artifacts recovered from Dholavira, including pottery, seals, weights, and tools, provide significant insights into the commercial, administrative, and daily life practices of this ancient civilization. The site's preservation and the clarity of its structural remains contribute to understanding the development of urban settlements in South Asia during the third and second millennia BCE.
