Located in the Vindhya Hills of central India, this archaeological site comprises numerous rock shelters and caves that document human habitation spanning multiple prehistoric periods. The rock shelters contain evidence of early human settlement alongside artistic expressions, including hand stencils and animal paintings that reflect the cultural practices of ancient communities. The site's significance lies in its continuous occupation record and the preservation of rock art that provides insights into the development of human artistic expression and settlement patterns in South Asia. The natural formation of the rock shelters, created by erosion of sandstone hills, offered protection and resources that attracted successive generations of inhabitants. The archaeological deposits and artistic remains at the site contribute to understanding the cultural and technological evolution of prehistoric societies in the Indian subcontinent.
