Located in northern Israel on the Mediterranean coast, the Old City of Acre represents a significant urban ensemble from the medieval and Ottoman periods. The site preserves the remains of the Crusader city alongside substantial Ottoman structures, including fortifications, mosques, khans, and residential quarters that reflect centuries of strategic importance and cultural exchange. The walled city demonstrates the layering of different historical periods, with Crusader remains incorporated into later Ottoman construction. Narrow streets, souks, and traditional architecture characterize the urban fabric, while the harbor and defensive walls illustrate Acre's role as a major port and fortified settlement. The site documents the evolution of Mediterranean cities under successive civilizations and serves as an important example of medieval and post-medieval urban planning in the Levantine context.
